Senior Scientist – Biotechnology & AI

About the role

The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University seeks a Senior Scientist to lead a Biotechnology Guided by AI and Engineering component of the QBRI NEXUS. The role involves developing new biotechnologies, advancing strategic infrastructure, and driving scientific innovation aligned with institute goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and conduct independent or joint original research contributing to QBRI programs and multidisciplinary agendas.
• Lead a team of scientists, post‑doctoral fellows, and technical staff to create new biotechnologies and solutions.
• Support infrastructure initiatives, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and foster collaborations within HBKU and external institutions.
• Supervise Master/PhD students and research associates, secure external funding, and prepare progress reports.

Required profile

• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated ability to work at the interface of engineering and biology, formulating innovative scientific strategies.
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to lead and motivate research teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, C/C++ or MATLAB for data analysis, instrument control and automation.
• Working knowledge of electronics, circuit design, sensors and microcontroller platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32).
• Experience integrating sensors and instruments via APIs/SDKs into automated or closed‑loop systems.
