Specialist Ophthalmology – Anterior Segment (Qatar)

About the role

The Specialist – Ophthalmology (Anterior Segment) provides high‑quality, evidence‑based eye care focusing on corneal, cataract, refractive and other anterior segment disorders. Working in a multidisciplinary tertiary‑care hospital, the physician collaborates with consultants, optometrists, nurses and allied health professionals to deliver safe, patient‑centered services.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage a broad range of anterior segment eye conditions.
• Perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and develop treatment plans.
• Carry out anterior segment surgeries, including cataract extraction and related interventions.
• Run outpatient ophthalmology clinics and support inpatient consultations.
• Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment and imaging technologies effectively.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical rounds and departmental discussions.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
• Provide on‑call coverage as required and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Board‑certified in Ophthalmology with a recognised specialisation.
• Fellowship or focused experience in Anterior Segment/Cornea/Cataract surgery (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years post‑board experience in a governmental, semi‑governmental, academic or tertiary‑care setting.
• Eligibility for a Specialist licence with Qatar’s Department of Healthcare Professions.
• Fluency in English (Arabic advantageous).
