Staff Scientist - Assistant Level (Bioinformatics)

About the role

Sidra Medicine is hiring a Staff Scientist at assistant level in bioinformatics. The role supports research within specific research programmes by performing moderately complex experiments, critically evaluating scientific literature and interpreting data. It sits under the general supervision of more senior scientific staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform research tasks of moderate scope at the highest standards, conducting experiments, analysing and processing data, and keeping accurate records.
• Help evaluate and test new processes and collaborate with colleagues to apply research results or develop new techniques.
• Prepare research results for journal publication and present work at local and academic conferences.
• Develop and apply novel methods for feature extraction in medical imaging, molecular and clinical data to predict patient outcomes.
• Build AI solutions using advanced algorithms and analyse multi-omics data such as WES, WGS, RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, methylation, miRNA-seq, metabolomic and proteomic data.
• Use public biological databases such as TCGA, GEO, TCIA and cBioPortal, and analyse rare genetic variants for familial diseases.
• Write progress reports and research grant proposals.

Required profile

• PhD in Bioinformatics.
• Successful completion of a post-doctoral fellowship.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Next-generation sequencing data analysis, including quality control, mapping, base calling, differential expression, exon skipping and annotation.
• Strong knowledge of statistical methods and tools.
• Excellent programming in Python and R.
• Project management, problem-solving and attention to detail.
