Technical Operations Manager - Smart City Platform

About the role

A smart city project developing a cloud-hosted platform for urban living is looking for a Technical Operations Manager. The role ensures the reliability, scalability and performance of the platform, leads a team of technical experts and works with stakeholders to keep systems available and improving. The contract lasts 1 year and the preferred nationality is European, UK or bilingual.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of the platform, ensuring high availability and reliability
• Manage a team of operations and support staff, mentoring and fostering collaboration
• Monitor and optimize performance on Azure/Google Cloud, including cost management and resource allocation
• Develop incident response procedures and lead the team in resolving critical issues
• Work with security and compliance teams on best practices and data security
• Evaluate performance and resource use to plan for future scalability
• Liaise with third-party vendors and technology partners
• Maintain documentation of configurations, processes and procedures
• Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation
• Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans
• Support adoption of ITIL and service management best practices
• Manage the operations budget, forecast and track expenditure
• Prepare regular reports for senior management on performance and metrics

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; Master's degree is a plus
• 5+ years of experience in technical operations management, preferably in cloud environments, with a strong background in Azure/Google Cloud
• Proven leadership and team management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional teams

• Cloud computing, infrastructure as code (IaC) and DevOps principles
• Security best practices, compliance and risk management
• Incident response, problem resolution and performance optimization
• Preferred: Azure and Google Cloud certifications (e.g. Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect); ITIL certification is a plus
