Clinical Coding Officer

About the role

PHCC, a health provider in Qatar focused on disease prevention, healthy lifestyles and wellness, is looking for a Clinical Coding Officer. The role extracts accurate medical data from records and assigns the right clinical codes so that reimbursement, storage, analysis of health data and research can proceed smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain accurate clinical information from medical records and assign appropriate clinical codes for diagnosis, treatments and operations.
• Enter codes into PHCC's encoder and abstracting systems and identify outpatient reimbursement.
• Follow coding principles, standards and guidelines set by the Supreme Council of Health, and assess coding procedures to keep ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding improving.
• Perform regular quality assessments to ensure valid coding and accurate collection of health information.
• Analyze medical bills, determine chargeable items and enter data into the billing system; flag duplicate billing, undocumented services and mathematical errors.
• Act proactively on patient safety: anticipate risks, report errors and near misses, and follow patient safety policies and protocols.
• Work with the line manager to identify risks, plan mitigation and share accountability, and consult physicians to clarify unclear medical records.
• Maintain high standards of confidentiality for sensitive information.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in health information management, a health care field, science stream or a related stream.
• Clinical coding certification from AHIMA, AAPC or HIMAA (e.g., CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in health information management.
