Data Compliance & Privacy Consultant

About the role

The Data Compliance & Privacy Consultant helps organisations interpret and apply legal, regulatory and policy requirements to their data activities. The role translates obligations into practical controls across the data lifecycle, ensuring responsible handling while escalating unresolved legal questions to authorised advisers.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and document legal, regulatory, policy and contractual requirements that affect client data processes.
• Map requirements to data‑lifecycle stages, business processes, systems, controls and accountable roles.
• Support privacy, data‑protection, classification, access, sharing, retention and disposal assessments.
• Review data‑sharing agreements, processing arrangements, notices, consent requirements and evidence obligations with legal stakeholders.
• Develop compliance matrices, control requirements, assessment questions, evidence requests and remediation trackers.
• Assess control design, distinguish confirmed compliance from gaps and flag matters needing legal interpretation.
• Assist architecture, analytics, integration and data‑product initiatives with privacy and security requirements.
• Facilitate workshops, translate obligations into practical language for business and technical teams.
• Document exceptions, residual risks and escalation needs without assuming client risk‑acceptance authority.
• Support monitoring plans, reporting, corrective actions and periodic reviews.
• Coordinate with governance, security, records, audit, system owners and external advisers.
• Prepare implementation guidance and transfer compliance knowledge to client personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law, information systems, cybersecurity, risk, audit or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 4–8 years of experience in data protection, privacy, regulatory compliance, information governance, risk or technology compliance.
• Proven ability to translate regulatory obligations into controls, process requirements and evidence expectations.
