Department Manager

About the role

The Department Manager oversees the day‑to‑day operations of a specific department within a large‑format, big‑box store. The role focuses on driving sales, meeting key performance indicators and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee overall department performance, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to company policies.
• Manage daily operations including stock management, sales, and customer service.
• Track and report key KPIs such as sales targets, conversion rates, customer satisfaction scores and stock loss prevention.
• Maintain visual merchandising standards and adapt displays for seasonal changes, promotions and product launches.
• Monitor customer interactions to deliver excellent service and promote loyalty programmes.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct stock audits and coordinate with the replenishment team.
• Handle department‑specific tasks such as rostering, scheduling and addressing customer inquiries or grievances.
• Ensure security and safety compliance to minimise stock loss and create a secure environment.
• Lead, mentor and develop the department team through coaching and training sessions.
