Executive Director

About the role

The Executive Director will provide overall leadership for research project management, infrastructure development, and scientific investigation across high‑priority computing research areas such as Arabic Language Technologies, Data Security, Bioinformatics, Precision Health, and Artificial Intelligence. The role aims to foster collaborative research relationships within HBKU, across Qatar, and globally.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary research programs in computing and related domains.
• Develop and maintain research infrastructure and secure funding for large‑scale projects.
• Manage an annual research budget of at least $15 million USD.
• Mentor PhD candidates, post‑doctoral researchers, and senior scientists.
• Ensure compliance with local and international regulations governing computing research and digital society.
• Represent HBKU in national and international research collaborations.

Required profile

• PhD in a hard science discipline with a strong publication record.
• Minimum 16 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in senior academic management.
• Proven experience overseeing R&D functions in an IT or computing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑million‑dollar research budgets.
• Excellent written communication skills; proficiency in Arabic is an advantage.
