General Machinist – Conventional Machining Operations

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Machinist to join our workshop in Khor, Qatar. The role involves operating conventional machining equipment to produce high‑quality components for marine and shipyard projects.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, operate and maintain lathe, milling, drilling and grinding machines.
• Perform turning, milling, boring, threading and related machining tasks.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and technical specifications.
• Select appropriate cutting tools and machining methods, and conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Repair and re‑machine mechanical components as required, ensuring compliance with tolerances and quality standards.
• Carry out routine machine cleaning, lubrication and basic maintenance.
• Identify machining defects, make corrections and adhere to workshop safety procedures.
• Coordinate with supervisors and mechanical teams to meet job deadlines.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience as a General Machinist.
• At least 2 years of formal machinist training or technical qualification.
• Mandatory experience in port, shipyard or marine environments.
• Proficient in reading engineering drawings and working to close tolerances.
• Strong understanding of workshop safety practices and ability to work independently or in a team.
