Head of Automation

About the role

Al Jazeera Media Network is seeking a Head of Automation to lead the automation of studio production, galleries, and special event coverage. This senior position combines technical expertise with strong leadership to ensure seamless on‑air output across news and programme channels.

Key responsibilities

• Centralise and standardise automation workflows for all galleries and ensure consistent on‑air output.
• Manage the automation team, including recruitment, training, performance reviews and staff development.
• Oversee live news bulletins and pre‑recorded programmes, handling video source switching, camera shots and graphics via the automation system.
• Collaborate with Newsroom, Programme and Creative teams to achieve the visual style of the channel.
• Maintain backup systems, business continuity and disaster‑recovery processes.
• Liaise with Broadcast Engineering to keep studio automation equipment operational.
• Design, implement and monitor automation workflows, capture KPIs and generate regular reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Film, Directing, Media, Communications, Graphics or a related field (diplomas/certificates preferred).
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in broadcast automation, studio production or related areas.
• Proven supervisory and management capabilities.
