Instrument Engineer – Power Station

About the role

Ras Abu Fontes Power Station in Qatar is looking for an Instrument Engineer at junior to mid level, focused on maintenance of instruments and control systems. The role covers setup, configuration and routine checks of plant automation systems, and requires strong hands-on experience in turbine control and instrumentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a thorough understanding of plant automation systems such as ABB Procontrol, ABB Advant, Yokogawa Centum, Emerson Ovation, ALSPA EDCS, Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley PLC and Mitsubishi PLC.
• Carry out routine, breakdown-shutdown and planned maintenance, coordinating with team members for efficient scheduling and resource allocation.
• Perform instrument and control maintenance on DCS, PLC, valve actuators, positioners, transmitters, switches, sensors, analysers, servers and HMIs.
• Set up, configure and maintain instrumentation equipment such as positioners, analysers, transmitters and control systems.
• Follow safety standard operating procedures and ensure tools and work environments comply with safety regulations.
• Assess equipment availability and reliability after maintenance and support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of shutdowns and breakdowns.
• Analyse plant performance and propose evidence-based process or equipment improvements.
• Respond to emergency call-outs and support operations around the clock.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a reputable university (mandatory).
• 8 years of experience in similar roles in large companies within the Energy or Power sector (mandatory).
• Experience with turbine control systems such as GE Mark V, Mark VI, Mark VIe, Siemens T3000, ABB Procontrol, Emerson Ovation and Yokogawa Centum.
• Hands-on experience in turbine control and instrumentation: maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, loop checks, commissioning, system modifications and control logic implementation.
• Experience with gas turbine, steam turbine, combined cycle power plants or other power generation technologies.
• Good understanding of the power, energy and water sectors and their emerging trends.
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills; English proficiency is mandatory, Arabic is a plus.
