About the role
Al Jazeera English is seeking an experienced News Editor to join its Doha headquarters. The role involves shaping the daily news agenda, coordinating with the Executive Producer and programme editors, and ensuring high‑quality coverage across the global news desk.
Key responsibilities
- Read and assess international news updates from all available sources.
- Develop the daily news agenda in collaboration with the Executive Producer.
- Commission stories, assign tasks to news teams worldwide and manage the daily newslog.
- Review and rewrite news scripts, providing feedback to reporters and correspondents.
- Brief reporters, correspondents and presenters on story direction, interviews and live two‑ways.
- Liaise with the Doha output team on live events and rolling news coverage.
- Deploy to the field as producer or news editor when required.
Required profile
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior news‑editing or news‑desk management role.
- Proven experience running a large, global news desk operation.
- Field news production experience is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of editorial standards and journalism workflow in a multinational newsroom.
Required skills
- Editorial judgment and script‑writing expertise.
- Ability to coordinate and brief international news teams.
- Experience with live‑feed coordination and satellite feed management.
