Offshore Explosion-Proof Equipment Inspector

About the role

This offshore-based position is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of explosion-proof electrical and instrumentation equipment at the Idd El Shargi (IS) facilities in Qatar. It executes the hazardous equipment inspection regime for Ex equipment in the IS offshore field, ensuring plant safety through safe and efficient inspection and repair of all rated equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspection, maintenance and repair of Ex electrical and instrumentation equipment offshore Qatar.
• Carry out Ex inspections according to the Ex work package and IEC checklist, identifying non-compliance in line with IEC 60079-17.
• Liaise with all relevant departments within IS so that the scope of work covers all important issues.
• Follow work procedures and safety precautions, including lockout and tag-out.
• Manage the scope of work so that Maintenance and Operations teams are fully aware of ongoing work.
• Prepare clear daily reports and raise notifications in SAP for corrective actions, materials and manpower.
• Decide on repairs based on criticality and priority, and prepare material requisitions for timely procurement.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an electrical engineer, technician or inspector in oil and gas, preferably offshore.
• At least 2 years performing Ex inspection in an offshore or onshore facility.
• CompEx certification or equivalent.
• English spoken, read and written.
• Advantages: rope access qualification for high-elevation work.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IEC 60079-17 and IEC 79 regulations.
• Hands-on experience in hazardous area equipment maintenance and arc flash hazards.
• Excel and Word; SAP knowledge for reporting is an advantage.
