Principal Technical Safety Engineer

About the role

Wood is seeking a Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join its Doha office in Qatar. The role will support a range of projects from study and FEED through EPC and PMC, covering both brownfield and greenfield opportunities in onshore and offshore oil & gas.

Key responsibilities

• Perform safety screening of project scopes and analyse existing safety systems to identify gaps.
• Conduct Hazardous Area Classification, safety layout assessments and emergency escape‑route assessments.
• Lead fire‑engineering activities including fire‑zone determination, fire‑water demand calculations and network hydraulics.
• Prepare third‑party scopes of work, evaluate bids and coordinate post‑award safety and environmental workshops.
• Support design, detail engineering, construction, commissioning and plant start‑up phases with technical safety expertise.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of Technical Safety and Loss Prevention engineering methodologies.
• Hands‑on experience across FEED, detailed design, construction and commissioning in oil & gas projects.
• Proven ability to analyse safety systems, identify deficiencies and propose corrective measures.
• Experience working on both onshore and offshore oil & gas facilities.
