Process Safety Specialist

About the role

The Process Safety Specialist provides expertise, support, and consultation on process safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance to help the plant achieve zero incidents and full adherence to OSHA Process Safety Management, Operational Excellence, and Responsible Care standards.

Key responsibilities

• Champion a culture of process safety excellence aligned with the Journey to Zero goal.
• Facilitate compliance with OSHA’s Process Safety Management requirements and steward the MOC/PSSR process.
• Lead and support PHAs, LOPAs, QRAs, facility siting studies, and other risk identification activities.
• Conduct root‑cause analyses (RCAs) and ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence.
• Maintain up‑to‑date Process Safety Information (PSI) documents and review events for safety impact.
• Develop, track, and report on process safety action plans using PSM metrics and KPIs.
• Support implementation of equipment reliability programs and coordinate internal PSM audits and regulatory inspections.
• Assist with Operational Excellence (OE) and Responsible Care (RC‑14001) system integration, gap identification, and corrective actions.
• Design and deliver process safety training, safety campaigns, and awareness initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in process safety management within an industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management requirements.
• Familiarity with Operational Excellence and Responsible Care standards.

Required skills

• Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
• Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
• Management of Change (MOC) and Pre‑Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes.
• Root‑Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques.
• Development and interpretation of Process Safety Management (PSM) KPIs.
• Implementation of equipment reliability and audit programs.
