Senior Static Engineer - Ammonia and Urea Complex

About the role

ISS International SpA is recruiting a Senior Static Engineer for its client in the fertilizer industry in Qatar. The engineer leads static equipment engineering for capital projects across the Ammonia and Urea Complex, covering pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reformer furnaces and tubes, and high-pressure urea/carbamate equipment, from concept and feasibility through FEED, detailed design and procurement. The role also requires applying the company's occupational health and safety, environment, quality, process safety and information security standards throughout every project phase.

Key responsibilities

• Concept and feasibility: lead static equipment sizing and selection studies, develop the design philosophy for new units and modifications, and support fabrication, inspection, testing and commissioning to resolve structural or material anomalies.
• FEED: prepare static equipment lists, design basis and preliminary datasheets, and review licensor and contractor design packages for technical compliance.
• Detailed engineering: review design, calculations and drawings during EPC execution, resolve technical queries, and review vendor calculations, material certificates and inspection/test plans.
• Safety: take part in HAZOP, SIL and PSM reviews to identify and mitigate design hazards.
• Procurement: prepare technical specifications and datasheets, evaluate vendor bids and verify compliance with ASME/API codes and company specifications.
• Standards: own and maintain design standards, capture lessons learned, and manage time, cost and quality across several projects.
• Interface and mentoring: coordinate with other engineering disciplines, procurement and EPC contractors, and mentor the Static Equipment Engineer.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 8-12 years of static equipment engineering, preferably on ammonia and urea projects, including specification, bid evaluation and vendor design review.
• API 510/570/653 certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with absolute fluency in English.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII and project procurement processes.
• Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, PV Elite and CAESAR II.
