Solar Design Engineer

About the role

Solmacher Solar Energy, a renewable energy solutions provider based in Doha, Qatar, specialises in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy storage and solar infrastructure for commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications. It is looking for a skilled Solar Design Engineer to help design reliable, efficient and cost-effective renewable energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop solar PV systems for rooftop, ground-mounted, solar carport and other commercial and industrial applications.
• Prepare PV layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, schematic drawings, cable sizing calculations and equipment specifications.
• Perform yield assessments, shading analysis, system sizing and performance simulations.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, Bills of Quantities and Bills of Materials.
• Support on-grid, off-grid and hybrid designs, including BESS and mini-grids.
• Conduct site surveys and technical assessments of installation requirements and existing electrical infrastructure.
• Select and evaluate modules, inverters, mounting structures, batteries and other balance-of-system components.
• Review tender documents and client requirements, coordinate with project management, procurement, suppliers, consultants and installers, and prepare technical submittals, MARs and design calculations for approvals.
• Support proposals, feasibility studies, value engineering and cost optimisation, and assist with design reviews, commissioning support and as-built documentation.
• Ensure deliverables meet Qatar regulatory requirements, project specifications and IEC and other applicable standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in solar PV design and engineering, preferably in an EPC or renewable energy company.
• Good command of written and spoken English.

Required skills

• AutoCAD and PVsyst; HelioScope, SketchUp or similar software is an advantage.
• Solar PV design, electrical calculations, cable sizing, protection systems, earthing and equipment selection.
• Knowledge of IEC standards, utility interconnection requirements and local authority approval processes.
• Experience preparing SLDs, BOQs, technical specifications, engineering drawings and material submittals.
