About the role
The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position for recent graduates or candidates with less than five years of experience. Working under direct supervision, you will develop the ability to examine and report on vessels and marine structures to ensure compliance with ABS classification and statutory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a professional specialist applying ABS rules, guides, and statutory regulations.
- Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, and other marine structures.
- Prepare accurate and timely inspection and survey reports.
- Engage with clients to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain orderly and up‑to‑date survey files.
- Develop office procedures and monitor business performance at an assigned port.
- Gain a thorough understanding of field operations, policies, methods, and procedures through progressively challenging assignments.
Required profile
- Degree or diploma in engineering, physical science, or a marine/nautical institution with relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
- Proficiency in English commensurate with statutory certification requirements.
- Appropriate certification or licenses in areas of specialization may be required.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, and statutory regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and shipbuilding documentation.
- Familiarity with computer software used for survey reporting.
- Understanding of ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
