Systems Engineer

About the role

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is looking for a Systems Engineer to maintain, configure and support its enterprise server, virtualization, storage, backup, cloud and Microsoft infrastructure. The role covers Linux servers, virtual desktops, high-performance computing and hybrid cloud, working closely with the Lead Systems Engineer and cybersecurity teams.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, configure and support enterprise server, virtualization, storage, backup, cloud and Microsoft infrastructure, keeping operations reliable and secure.
• Manage Microsoft infrastructure including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, identity, messaging, virtualization, endpoint management, monitoring and security.
• Administer Linux servers (Ubuntu and RHEL) and virtualization/VDI platforms (VMware vSphere, Horizon, GPU-enabled VDI).
• Support HPC and GPU-accelerated infrastructure for academic, research, AI and VDI workloads.
• Administer compute and storage, and backup and recovery operations including restoration testing and disaster recovery.
• Support hybrid cloud across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
• Manage SCCM/MECM, SCOM, Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender; perform patching, vulnerability remediation and security hardening.
• Monitor availability, health, performance and capacity, troubleshoot incidents and resolve them within IT operational SLAs.
• Collaborate on infrastructure upgrades, migrations and cloud/server projects, and support incident, problem, change, capacity and release management.
• Develop PowerShell scripts and automation, maintain technical documentation, and coordinate with vendors, the Service Desk and other IT teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years' experience in IT or a related field, including at least 3 years in system administration.
• Fluent written and spoken English; fluent Arabic preferred.

Required skills

• Desirable certifications: Microsoft MCSE, RHCE, CCNP, VMware and Azure.
• Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL), VMware vSphere, Horizon, Azure and GCP.
