About the role
The Traffic Management Specialist coordinates the shipment of Global Prepositioned Material Services (GPMS) cargo worldwide by air, land, and sea. This position ensures full compliance with international, federal, and Department of Defense transportation regulations while maintaining in‑transit visibility across the Defense Transportation System.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect, accept, and process outbound/inbound cargo documentation (DD Form 1149/1348‑1) for accuracy and completeness.
- Verify nomenclatures, quantities, Transportation Control Numbers (TCN), account codes, consignor/consignee data, and hazardous/classified material certifications.
- Select appropriate commodity codes, determine the most efficient mode of shipment, and manage government transportation fund obligations.
- Prepare shipping documents, assign TCNs, produce labels, issue truck manifests, and maintain manifest logs.
- Enter transportation data into CMOS, GATES, IBS, and related systems, ensuring accurate record‑keeping.
- Inspect hazardous materials for proper packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation in accordance with AFMAN 24‑604, 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations.
Required profile
- Ability to comply with all applicable international, federal, and DOD transportation laws, regulations, tariffs, and guidance.
- Access and proficiency with Logistics Tool Suite (LTS), Global Freight Management (GFM), Cargo Movement Operating System (CMOS), Integrated Logistics System‑Supply (ILS‑S), Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES), Integrated Computerized Deployment System (ICODES), Integrated Booking System (IBS), Joint Container Management (JCM), Wood Packaging Materials Management Toolset, Global Asset Reporting Tool (GART), and web‑based tracking platforms.
- Completion of AMMO‑43, AMMO‑62, and WPM certification/recertification training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ITAR, Performance Work Statement (PWS) compliance, and ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
