Finance Director – Civil Engineering & Construction

About the role

The Finance Director will lead all financial activities for a civil engineering and construction organisation. You will be responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, project cost control and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee financial operations and provide leadership for civil and construction projects.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial strategy and long‑term financial modelling.
• Monitor and report project profitability, cash flow, budgets, variations, claims and retention.
• Ensure timely contract billing, invoicing, collections and receivables.
• Work closely with Commercial, Contracts, Quantity Surveying, Procurement and Project teams on financial matters.
• Identify financial, commercial and project risks and implement mitigation measures.
• Maintain compliance with accounting standards, regulations, internal controls and oversee internal/external audits.
• Develop and manage the finance and accounting team and advise senior management on business decisions.
• Ensure effective use of ERP systems, preferably SAP.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance experience in civil engineering, construction, infrastructure or related project‑based industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, billing, variations, claims and project cash flow.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage finance teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
