Material Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Material Engineer to manage all aspects of material selection, procurement and quality control for our road construction projects. The role is site‑based and involves close collaboration with consultants, clients and internal teams to ensure that all materials meet project specifications and schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and approve materials proposed by subcontractors and suppliers, coordinating with consultants and client representatives.
• Ensure timely procurement and availability of approved materials in partnership with Procurement and Logistics teams.
• Conduct inspections of delivered materials on‑site and in storage to verify quality, quantity and conformity with approved samples.
• Coordinate with QA/QC engineers to initiate sampling, third‑party lab testing and inspection requests.
• Monitor material usage and wastage, identifying optimisation and cost‑control opportunities.
• Maintain a material tracking log and reporting system to flag delays, shortages or rejections.
• Liaise with consultants and client supervision during material inspections, audits and compliance checks.
• Assist in resolving non‑conformance issues and initiate corrective/preventive actions.
• Participate in technical meetings and value‑engineering sessions to propose alternative materials that meet specs and budget constraints.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science/Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• 7–10 years of experience in materials testing and engineering on roadworks (soil, concrete, asphalt), including both laboratory and field work.
• Valid MMUP/UPDA license is mandatory.
