Airfield Sweeping Technician

About the role

The Airfield Sweeping Technician ensures that runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps and associated paved surfaces at Al Udeid Air Base remain free of foreign object debris (FOD) and safe for aircraft operations. The role supports continuous airfield activity by operating sweeping equipment and following strict safety, security and operational procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Operate airfield sweeping equipment, including mechanical and vacuum sweepers.
• Perform FOD removal on runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps and shoulders.
• Conduct visual inspections of airfield surfaces before, during and after sweeping.
• Follow airfield safety procedures and FOD prevention programs at all times.
• Coordinate movement‑area access with Airfield Management and ATC as directed.
• Complete inspection checklists, logs and operational reports.
• Carry out basic preventive maintenance checks on sweeping equipment and vehicles.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards.
• Support emergency or urgent airfield cleaning operations as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of airfield operations, maintenance or sweeping experience.
• Knowledge of FOD prevention principles and airfield safety procedures.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a Qatar residency visa.
• Ability to work in extreme dust, high‑temperature conditions and endure long hours.
• DoD Secret clearance (must be maintained).

• Operation of heavy or specialized sweeping equipment.

• Basic preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
