Exams & Assessments Lead

About the role

The Examinations and Assessment Lead is responsible for managing the Examinations and Assessment team and ensuring that all assessment activities are delivered in line with a compliant, consistent strategy across the Technical Institute. This senior role provides assurance to senior management that examinations meet contractual and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Examinations and Assessment team in accordance with organisational policies.
• Own and maintain the Technical Institute Assessment Strategy for all training programmes.
• Provide Chief Instructors with a forward assessment calendar, including scheduled assessments, re‑sits, complaints and appeals procedures.
• Forecast and plan resource requirements to support the assessment calendar and strategy.
• Identify assessment‑related training needs and deliver appropriate training and standardisation for staff.
• Capture and maintain assessment data to analyse factors affecting student performance.
• Ensure all examination and assessment policies, processes and procedures are regularly reviewed and controlled.
• Support continuous improvement through corrective actions, preventative measures and quality performance metrics.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading an examinations or assessment function within a technical or vocational institute.
• Strong knowledge of external awarding bodies such as City & Guilds and Ministry of Education requirements.
• Experience conducting internal audits, assessment analysis and moderation outcomes.
• Ability to work closely with academic and engineering leaders to ensure compliance and clear communication.
• Demonstrated capability to identify risks, trends and improvement actions that impact learner outcomes.
