Senior Surveyor I – Marine Classification

About the role

The Senior Surveyor I is an intermediate‑to‑advanced position responsible for examining vessels and marine structures to ensure compliance with ABS classification rules and statutory requirements. The role involves conducting surveys, preparing reports, and supporting business performance at an assigned port.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, and marine structures, as well as at manufacturers.
• Prepare accurate, timely inspection and survey reports.
• Maintain orderly survey files and stay current with technical developments.
• Recommend improvements to surveying processes and safety programs.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate surveying activities, monitoring quality of work.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and training to junior surveyors.
• Promote ABS services to existing and potential customers.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science, or a marine/nautical institution with relevant seagoing experience.
• Minimum three years as Surveyor II or eight years in an engineering/survey capacity with an IACS member society.
• Understanding of ABS strategic technical positioning within the marine industry.
• Appropriate certifications or licenses in the area of specialization.
