Spray Painter – Steel Works

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced spray painter to prepare and protect structural steel surfaces in fabrication and erection projects. The role involves surface preparation, mixing and applying protective coatings, and maintaining equipment while adhering to safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Clean, degrease, grind and remove rust from steel to achieve required surface condition before painting.
• Mix primers, epoxy and polyurethane coatings and thinners according to specifications.
• Apply protective coatings using airless and conventional spray equipment, ensuring uniform coverage and correct thickness.
• Perform stripe coating on edges, welds, bolts and hard‑to‑reach areas, and repair coating defects.
• Maintain painting equipment and follow site safety procedures, including PPE use and proper ventilation.

Required profile

• High school certificate or vocational training in industrial painting or a related trade (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of spray‑painting experience on structural steel projects.
• Valid QID and immediate availability (preferred).

Required skills

• Operation of airless and conventional spray equipment for steel protective coatings.
• Knowledge of steel surface preparation, epoxy and polyurethane coating systems, mixing ratios, pot life and recoating intervals.
• Ability to follow coating specifications and use wet‑film thickness gauges.
