Utility Technician - Mechanical

About the role

This position covers the operation, monitoring and maintenance of plant utilities in a highly automated water and CSD manufacturing environment. The technician keeps boilers, compressors, chillers, refrigeration and water treatment systems running within safe limits and responds quickly to breakdowns.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor boilers, LP and HP compressors, chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration systems, ammonia and glycol systems, and water treatment systems (RO, filters, pumps, storage).
• Perform routine inspections, record pressure, temperature, flow and levels, and identify leaks, vibration, noise, overheating and pressure drops.
• Carry out first-level troubleshooting and immediate corrective action, plus preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
• Maintain pumps, motors, valves, pipelines, strainers, filters and safety devices; assist with steam distribution, condensate recovery and steam-trap inspection.
• Monitor compressor oil levels, discharge pressure and temperature, and chiller and refrigeration performance.
• Inspect ammonia refrigeration equipment and pipelines and report unsafe conditions; keep housekeeping standards around equipment.
• Use hand tools, measuring instruments and maintenance tools safely, and support spare-parts identification, stock monitoring and replacement.
• Read P&IDs, equipment manuals and drawings, assist OEM/service technicians, and keep daily logs, checklists and maintenance records.
• Follow HSE, GMP, LOTO and permit-to-work procedures and respond promptly to emergencies.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician in a highly automated water and CSD manufacturing plant (a must).
• Diploma in mechanical engineering (a must).
• Ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Pump and valve maintenance, compressor and refrigeration knowledge, boiler and steam-system knowledge.
• Pneumatics and basic hydraulics, preventive maintenance.
• Reading P&IDs, equipment manuals and drawings.
• CLIT procedure, safety procedures and LOTO.
