Safety Engineer

About the role

Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) is hiring a Safety Engineer in Qatar. The role covers risk identification and assessment, prevention, inspection and monitoring, training, policy enforcement, incident management, emergency response support and project safety oversight, and prepares the budget for the section.

Key responsibilities

• Risk identification and assessment: carry out risk analyses, Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Permit to Work (PTW) reviews, evaluate MOC for new equipment and contribute to critical task analysis with Operations.
• Prevention: oversee the work permit system, site visits, internal audits of PTW, JSA and PSSR, and advise on contractor selection.
• Inspection and monitoring: run safety compliance inspections and spot audits of staff and contractors, check the work environment and machines for hazards, and take part in internal and external safety audits.
• Training: design, deliver and improve safety training courses, develop safety programs and campaigns, and educate staff on Golden Rules, risk analysis and PTW management.
• Policies and metrics: audit compliance with HSEQ rules, prepare weekly and monthly HSEQ lagging and leading metrics, and coordinate safety meetings with staff and contractors.
• Incident management: oversee reporting of incidents and near misses, assist accident investigations and root cause analysis, and report findings to site management.
• New projects: review safety and emergency facilities at the design stage and follow up on safety compliance.
• Emergency response: handle emergency calls and alarms, support drills and training, and ensure prompt response to emergencies.
• Budget: prepare the budget for the section and monitor financial performance against it.
