Clinical Nurse (Cardiac-Pediatrics Inpatient)

About the role

Sidra Medicine is hiring a Clinical Nurse for its Cardiac-Pediatrics Inpatient unit. The nurse provides safe and effective direct care, assesses care needs and plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care for patients and families, and is accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer. The nurse also takes part in supervising, orienting and training staff and educating patients, families and students.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individualized, patient- and family-centred care and plan, implement and evaluate care and discharge planning for each patient
• Document care and discharge planning accurately and in real time, and educate patients and families
• Escalate issues independently using the chain of command and maintain licensure and regulatory requirements such as life support certification and CPD
• Take part in orientation of new staff and students and act as preceptor and mentor
• Contribute to shared leadership, quality improvement and evidence-based practice, and identify opportunities to improve service efficiency
• Report hazards, errors and near misses through organizational reporting systems
• Follow hospital policies, the Code of Conduct and conflict of interest policies, and promote Sidra's values

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (4 years); registered nurse
• Valid professional nursing license in the country of origin
• 2+ years of recent clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty from a highly regarded healthcare institution; no minimum experience for University of Calgary Qatar graduates
• Preferred: postgraduate certificate in a specialty and cardiac-pediatrics inpatient experience
• Fluent written and spoken English

Required skills

• Pediatric medicine competencies, including growth and development, head-to-toe assessment, IV fluids, specimen collection, medication administration, pain management, nutritional and transfusion management, wound care, central and peripheral line care, and DKA treatment
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
• Effective communication, teamwork and critical thinking
