Club and Federation Doctor - Athletics (Track and Field)

About the role

Aspetar is looking for a Club and Federation Doctor for Athletics (Track and Field) to lead its medical services for athletes across the discipline. The role provides clinical and operational leadership, overseeing injury diagnosis, treatment and prevention, and coordinates athlete-centred care with coaches and support staff. It involves trackside care, managing services at major competitions and building medical governance frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary medical care, diagnose injuries and manage return-to-play decisions
• Work with the clinical team on injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance
• Take part in interdisciplinary meetings and set protocols for athlete health and safety
• Manage acute and chronic musculoskeletal and systemic conditions, and refer to imaging, labs and specialists
• Evaluate athletes before competition, monitor physiological and biochemical parameters for overtraining, and counsel athletes
• Help build a medical governance framework and anti-doping policies aligned with WADA principles
• Manage staff and contractors, maintain medical records and athlete data in the Aspetar EMR, and attend patient safety training annually

Required profile

• MD or DO with Board Certification in Sports Medicine (CAQ or equivalent)
• 7 to 9 years of professional experience, including 3 to 5 years in a similar role, preferably in track and field
• Eligible for medical licensing in Qatar
• Preferred: fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine, leadership experience in a sports medicine clinic, and proven coverage at international or national events

Required skills

• BLS and ACLS certification; field emergency or trauma management certification (e.g. FIFA, IOC) is an asset
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and sports performance software
• English oral and written; other languages desirable
• Ability to work under pressure and in a multicultural, international setting
