Scientific Researcher - ASPREV R&SS

About the role

Aspetar is looking for a Scientific Researcher to support its ASPREV (Aspetar Sports Injury and Illness Prevention Programme). The role contributes to world-class research projects, knowledge translation activities and events, and helps develop the hospital's vision and strategy for protecting the health and performance of local and international athletes and teams. The researcher works under the supervision of the Director of ASPREV, complies with research laws and policies, mentors PhD candidates and young researchers, and can act as principal investigator for independent projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define study design, prepare research ethics applications and recruit participants
• Assess, include and follow up research participants
• Implement and validate scientific methods and collect and manage data accurately and securely
• Perform statistical analysis supported by a biostatistician
• Write articles for international peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the Aspetar Sports Medicine Journal
• Take part in continuous education through lectures, presentations and educational events, online or in person
• Complete patient safety training annually and take on other duties assigned by the supervisor

Required profile

• PhD in Sports Medicine, Sports Physical Therapy or a relevant sport sciences discipline
• 6-8 years of experience, of which 2-3 years in a similar position, preferably in a similar industry
• Demonstrated experience publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, at least 15 papers in high-impact sports medicine or sports science journals as first or last author
• Documented experience mentoring PhD and MSc students
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of medical scientists and practitioners

Required skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication and effective group facilitation and education skills
• Professional communication with diverse groups of professionals and guests
• Experience with statistical software such as SPSS, JMP is an asset
• User-friendly knowledge of internet and web platforms is an advantage
