Design Manager - Highways

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Design Manager - Highways to join its consultancy team in Doha, Qatar. You will lead the design and delivery of complex highway infrastructure projects, overseeing multidisciplinary teams from concept through completion while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the full design process, from initial planning and concept development to final delivery and project closure.
• Manage and inspire multidisciplinary design teams, promoting collaboration, innovation and professional growth.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders across multiple offices for complex, multicentre projects.
• Monitor design progress through regular review meetings, assess performance against timelines and specifications and adjust plans decisively.
• Identify risks and challenges early and develop mitigation strategies.
• Maintain rigorous quality standards and compliance with industry regulations, organisational standards and client specifications.
• Manage design budgets, optimise resource allocation and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and prepare detailed project reports for stakeholders.
• Implement project delivery procedures and standards and collaborate with clients to understand requirements and manage expectations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in civil infrastructure project management and design, with a strong focus on highway projects.
• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Project Manager leading highway infrastructure initiatives.
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary design teams in a consultancy or corporate environment.
• Experience in budget management, cost control and resource optimisation.
• Preferred: PMP certification or equivalent, experience with highway projects in the US, Canada or Middle East, and a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency with CAD and BIM software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D or equivalent).
• Solid understanding of highway design standards, regulations and best practices for the region.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with strong stakeholder relationship management.
