IT Technician - Offshore Vessel

About the role

An offshore vessel is looking for an IT Technician to administer and troubleshoot its managed Wi-Fi networks and LAN infrastructure across several decks in a steel-hull environment. The role also covers satellite connectivity systems and works closely with the onshore IT team, with an 8 weeks on / 8 weeks off rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and troubleshoot managed Wi-Fi networks and LAN infrastructure across multiple decks.
• Assist the onshore IT team with installation, configuration and optimization of computer hardware, network equipment, operating systems and maritime-specific applications.
• Oversee and maintain VSAT, Starlink and TVRO media systems to ensure high-availability satellite connectivity for vessel operations and crew welfare.
• Monitor performance proactively to keep systems available and reliable.
• Enforce IT security policies and technical restrictions to protect vessel networks, in line with company policy.
• Guide crew on new software and hardware and on acceptable use policies.
• Schedule upgrades and maintenance without delaying other work.
• Perform rapid root-cause analysis of complex hardware, software and network outages to minimize downtime.
• Manage the full lifecycle of IT assets, document configurations, maintain hardware inventories and keep critical spares in stock for offshore repairs.
• Maintain up-to-date network topology diagrams and system configurations, and collaborate with offshore teams when needed.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
• Certifications such as IT & Network Technician (e.g. CompTIA A+, N+, Cisco CCNA).
• Extensive experience as an IT Technician or similar role in the Oil & Gas industry on offshore vessels.
• Valid STCW/ILO medical certificate and training according to the TOL Training Matrices.

Required skills

• Knowledge of LAN and Wi-Fi networks.
• Knowledge of VSAT, Starlink and TVRO media systems.
• Good working knowledge of IT security and data privacy principles.
• Excellent diagnostic and IT problem-solving skills.
