Laboratory Safety Manager

About the role

The Laboratory Safety Manager leads the organization’s training and qualification program, ensuring that all personnel are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to work safely and effectively. This role acts as the technical authority on safety training, developing policies, standards and instructional materials, and coordinating with line management and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise contract staff and oversee the facility‑wide safety training program.
• Develop, update and deliver training and qualification programs that meet regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Establish training standards, procedures and a graded approach based on safety impact, hazard magnitude and facility lifecycle.
• Coordinate vendor‑provided training, manage subcontractor training activities and ensure all training records are auditable.
• Maintain the training database, schedule courses, register participants and produce performance reports.
• Evaluate personnel performance, identify training needs and adjust programs for continuous improvement.
• Prepare annual training budgets, monitor expenditures and report trends to management.
