Lead Systems Engineer

About the role

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to lead its server infrastructure team. The role covers the maintenance, configuration and reliable operation of enterprise Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, storage, backup and cloud infrastructure, and provides technical leadership, mentoring and project coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the server infrastructure team in maintaining and configuring enterprise Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, storage, backup and cloud infrastructure.
• Administer and support Microsoft infrastructure such as Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, identity, messaging, virtualization, endpoint management, monitoring and security.
• Lead the design, administration and capacity planning of HPC and GPU-accelerated infrastructure for academic, research and AI workloads, and the adoption of enterprise AI platforms.
• Manage virtualization and VDI platforms, and enterprise compute and storage, ensuring availability, performance and capacity.
• Oversee backup, recovery and disaster recovery, including restoration testing.
• Support hybrid-cloud infrastructure across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Lead patch management, vulnerability remediation and security hardening with IT and cybersecurity teams; monitor infrastructure health and plan capacity and performance.
• Plan and coordinate upgrades, migrations, expansions, technology refreshes and lifecycle activities.
• Lead infrastructure projects, including technical plans, testing procedures, risk assessments and rollback plans, and run incident, problem, capacity, change and release management processes.
• Develop infrastructure automation with PowerShell and maintain technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
• Coordinate with vendors and business units, handle incidents and service requests within IT operational SLAs, and mentor Systems Engineers and other technical staff.
• Provide professional development support, periodic performance reviews and learning opportunities for direct subordinates.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years' experience in IT or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in system administration.
• Fluent written and spoken English; fluent Arabic preferred.

Required skills

• Desirable certifications: Microsoft MCSE, RHCE, CCNP, VMware and Azure.
• Infrastructure administration, virtualization, backup and recovery, and infrastructure automation with PowerShell.
