Legal Counsel – International Commercial Arbitration

About the role

West Bay International is seeking a qualified lawyer to join its dispute team, focusing on international commercial arbitration. The successful candidate will work on complex cross‑border disputes for a sophisticated clientele, either on‑site or in a hybrid arrangement. This position offers the chance to contribute to high‑profile arbitration matters across multiple industries.

Key responsibilities

• Act on international and domestic arbitrations under major institutional rules such as ICC, DIAC, LCIA, SIAC and ad‑hoc proceedings.
• Advise clients on cross‑border commercial disputes in sectors including energy, construction, financial services, manufacturing and joint ventures.
• Prepare case strategies, draft pleadings and submissions, attend hearings, and manage hearing bundles.
• Liaise with experts, witnesses and counsel throughout all stages of arbitration proceedings.
• Assist with mediation, settlement negotiations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution where appropriate.
• Support business development initiatives and help build and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in commercial arbitration at a leading international or well‑regarded regional law firm.
• Strong experience handling international arbitration matters and complex cross‑border disputes.
• Excellent drafting, analytical and case‑management skills.
• Strong academic background with exceptional attention to detail.
• Admission to practice in a common‑law jurisdiction (e.g., England & Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore) is preferred.
