Material Engineer

About the role

The Material Engineer is responsible for selecting, testing, inspecting and approving construction materials so they comply with project specifications, standards and quality requirements. The role supports engineering and site teams by making sure materials meet technical, safety and durability standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Review, evaluate and approve material submittals in line with project specifications and standards.
• Conduct material inspections, testing and quality checks at site, plant or laboratory.
• Coordinate with QA/QC, consultants, suppliers and site teams on material approvals and compliance.
• Ensure materials conform to international standards such as ASTM, BS, AASHTO and ISO.
• Monitor storage, handling and use of materials to prevent damage or quality issues.
• Investigate material non-conformances and support corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain records of approvals, test reports and inspection documentation, and support audits, inspections and technical reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Material Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3-7 years of experience as a Material Engineer on construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, steel, aggregates and soils.
• Familiarity with international material standards and project specifications.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and test results.
• Good communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
