Mechanical Engineer I - Offshore Oil & Gas

About the role

This is an individual contributor position in the Mechanical Engineering department of an offshore oil and gas company, reporting to the Mechanical Lead. The engineer works on mechanical design, equipment selection and procurement for a major offshore oil field, with the main office in Doha and possible missions to project sites onshore, offshore or abroad. Standard office hours, five days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in studies from pre-project through detailed and installation engineering, up to about $5 million per year
• Evaluate production facility drawings and designs for rotating equipment, installation, layout and drawings, HAZOP studies and materials take-off
• Select, design new mechanical equipment or define modifications, including equipment data sheets, specifications, preliminary GA drawings and inspection and test plans
• Prepare equipment pre-sizing, calculations, design and supply specifications, and requisition equipment and evaluate technical bids
• Develop scope of work, cost estimates, budgets and technical dossiers for mechanical packages, and conduct offshore mechanical surveys
• Review contractor proposals and check mechanical deliverables from contractors, commenting on drawings and recommending changes
• Follow up purchase orders, take part in vendor technical reviews and factory acceptance tests, and interface with process, piping and instrumentation disciplines and procurement
• Ensure NOC rules, specifications and procedures are followed safely and on time, and promote safety, innovation and cost reduction
• Train and mentor junior engineers and report to the Mechanical Lead weekly

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering; working towards professional or chartered engineer status
• Minimum 7 years' experience in oil and gas, including 5 years of relevant offshore experience covering rotating equipment
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in English
