Repairman - Slide Gate

About the role

Madre Integrated Engineering is hiring a full-time Repairman for its Slide Gate position in Doha, within the oil and gas sector. The role covers maintenance and repair of ladle refractory and mechanisms in a steel making plant, including monitoring temperatures, preparing ladles for operation and keeping equipment ready for the next heat.

Key responsibilities

• Follow verbal or written instructions from the supervisor and use the right materials and tools to carry out the work.
• Check that consumable refractory materials are available.
• Clean metal from ladle lips, shell, slide plate bore and nozzles with an oxygen lance, and clean slag jam from the ladle lip and shell with cleaning tools and hand tools.
• Cut and clean slag from ladles, steel pots and slag pots.
• Prepare new, circulation and standby ladles for operation by physical inspection according to SOP standards.
• Inspect ladle refractory, mechanism and IPV purging pressure conditions, and check that steel passage nozzles are free and open.
• Monitor ladle and shell temperatures according to SOP standards.
• Replace or repair refractory materials and mechanisms according to SOP, and ensure they are sealed and locked in position before each heat.
• Ensure the ladle is suitable for EAF tapping, fill the nozzle filling compound in the LV11 system, and maintain fluid control in the ladle and tundish and the auto-purging mechanism at the workshop.
• Follow operating, safety, environmental and quality procedures, communicate with production and maintenance teams on maintenance plans, and work overtime, standby and call-out duty when required.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or higher secondary education from a regular college or university.
• At least 3 years of experience in a steel making plant and process operation in the same job profile (mandatory).
• General knowledge of steel melt shop processes and specialist knowledge of your own area, plus understanding of the whole section.
• Comprehensive knowledge of safety, environmental and quality procedures and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents, basic mathematical and computer skills.
