Rotating Machinery Technician

About the role

The Rotating Machinery Technician is responsible for preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of rotating equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, pumps and their auxiliaries. The role works independently under normal supervision while ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, quality, energy and environmental procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out day‑to‑day routine and non‑routine maintenance activities on rotating equipment.
• Obtain cold‑work permits and conduct toolbox meetings to ensure tools and safety equipment are ready.
• Report problems and findings to supervisors to prevent equipment malfunction.
• Strictly follow lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO), isolation, confined‑space and hazardous‑area procedures.
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges and bore gauges.
• Execute rigging and lifting tasks using approved slings, shackles, chain blocks and hoists.
• Lead contracted manpower during shutdowns and specific tasks.
• Conduct condition checks (vibration, temperature, lubrication) and alignment activities using dial gauges and laser alignment systems.
• Assist in dismantling and re‑assembly of rotating equipment, handling bearings, seals and couplings.

Required profile

• Ability to perform basic maintenance jobs independently under normal supervision.
• Experience leading small teams of contracted workers during shutdown periods.
• Strong housekeeping habits and proper tool maintenance.
• Proactive in identifying and reporting equipment issues.
• Commitment to adhering to all safety, quality and environmental procedures.

Required skills

• Preventive maintenance of rotating equipment (steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal/reciprocating compressors, pumps).
• Use of precision measuring tools: micrometer, vernier caliper, dial indicator, feeler gauge, bore gauge.
• Alignment tools: dial gauge, laser alignment system.
• Condition monitoring: vibration analysis, temperature monitoring, lubrication inspection.
• Rigging and lifting equipment: slings, shackles, chain blocks, hoists.
• Lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures and cold‑work permit handling.
• Toolbox meeting facilitation and safety documentation.
• Soft‑foot correction and equipment alignment techniques.
