Backend Software Developer

About the role

At Iberdrola Innovation Middle East we are building a suite of highly scalable, cloud‑native SaaS products, and we are looking for a Backend Developer to join one of our core development squads. This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role for someone who already writes solid Java and wants to grow fast in a modern cloud environment.

Key responsibilities

• Implement backend features and REST APIs in Java (Spring Boot) from ticket to production.
• Write unit and integration tests for all code; testing is part of the deliverable.
• Submit reviewable pull requests, act on feedback quickly, and review peers’ code.
• Investigate and fix defects, support releases, and reproduce issues from logs and traces.
• Write and optimise SQL queries, design schemas and migrations under guidance.
• Containerise services and ship them through CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Data/AI Engineers to clarify requirements and data contracts.
• Maintain up‑to‑date API contracts and technical documentation for owned components.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• 3+ years of professional backend development experience, primarily using Java.
• Experience working in an agile squad with version control, pull‑request reviews, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

Required skills

• Java (Java 17+) and Spring Boot.
• Automated testing frameworks (JUnit, mocking, integration tests).
• Git and pull‑request workflow.
• REST API design and implementation.
• SQL and relational data modelling.
• Docker containerisation.
• Google Cloud Platform services (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub) – or equivalent AWS/Azure.
• Foundational Python for reading data pipelines.
