Billet Handler - Continuous Casting

About the role

Madre Integrated Engineering is hiring a full-time Billet Handler in Doha within its manufacturing sector. The role covers operating and monitoring billet handling equipment on the continuous casting line, preparing the machine between casts, inspecting billets and keeping equipment running safely.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor billet handling equipment (TCM, cross-transfer cars, turnover cooling beds, control desks and HMI systems) according to standard operating procedures.
• Prepare the Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) during sequence breaks, including crop bucket dumping and checking and cleaning TCM nozzles.
• Respond to operational abnormalities such as TCM cutting failures, transfer car trips, cooling-bed hydraulic misalignment and withdrawal-unit motor faults, supporting timely troubleshooting.
• Inspect produced billets for physical and surface defects, ensuring correct quantity, quality, marking and traceability for each heat.
• Perform routine equipment inspections, cleaning, adjustments, minor repairs and preventive maintenance, coordinating with maintenance teams during shutdowns and overhauls.
• Maintain compliance with safety, environmental and quality procedures and communicate equipment and process conditions clearly during shift handovers.

Required profile

• Technical Diploma or Higher Secondary Education from a recognised institution.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in a steel making plant and continuous casting process, in the same or a similar job profile (mandatory).
• Ability to work safely under pressure in environments involving heat, dust, heights and gases.

Required skills

• Strong practical knowledge of continuous casting machines, billet handling systems, cooling beds, transfer cars and TCM/cutting systems.
• Good understanding of steel-making processes, plant specifications, operating parameters, process calculations and billet quality requirements.
• Experience with control desks and HMI systems, and basic computer and mathematical skills.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with good written and spoken English.
