Clinical Lab Pathologist

About the role

Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Lab Pathologist. The role provides clinical pathology consultation to the hospital, its clinicians and the laboratory director, supervises diagnostic methods and specimen examination, and contributes to laboratory accreditation, quality reporting and business planning.

Key responsibilities

• Consult hospital clinicians and clients on clinical pathology services for patient diagnosis and management, and advise the organization and its clients
• Liaise between clinicians and the Director on chemistry, haematology, immunology and microbiology services and suggested improvements
• Advise the Director and Medical Technologists on clinical pathology, supervise diagnostic methods, examine specimens, authorize and interpret results
• Contribute to policies and standard operating procedures and help maintain full accreditation
• Plan business, introduce new methods and plan staff and equipment needs for the Laboratory Director
• Report to the Director and prepare periodic Quality Management reports covering KPIs, inventory control budgets, non-conformance incidents, safety, health and environmental issues
• Help develop occupational health and safety policies and comply with Qatari law, the Ministry of Public Health Qatar and Aspetar's policies
• Complete annual patient safety competency training and maintain confidentiality and a discrimination- and harassment-free workplace
• Guide the development plans and performance management of direct reports

Required profile

• Minimum 9-11 years of experience, of which 6 years in a similar position or responsibility, preferably in a similar industry
• Registered medical practitioner on the specialist register of the relevant organization in the country of origin (Board of Pathology)
• Subspecialty training and degree (MSc, PhD, MD) in clinical pathology disciplines such as serology, chemistry, haematology and microbiology
• Holding the MRC Path (Royal College of Pathologists) or equivalent training and experience is a strong advantage
• Fulfil all licensing requirements
