Director of the NU-Q Library

About the role

The Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) seeks an experienced leader to serve as Director of the NU-Q Library. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Education, the Director will guide a team of library professionals, shape strategic direction, and ensure the library supports the university’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and media‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Provide collaborative leadership and strategic vision for library programs, services, collections, and initiatives.
• Oversee all staffing functions, from recruitment and onboarding to performance evaluation and professional development.
• Develop and manage the library’s budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and operational excellence.
• Foster partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and external stakeholders to enhance research support and information services.
• Drive continuous assessment and innovation of reference services, both in‑person and online.
• Champion the library’s role in advancing teaching, learning, and scholarly communication across disciplines.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in senior library management or academic library leadership.
• Strong understanding of higher‑education library services, collections, and digital resources.
• Proven ability to build collaborative teams and mentor staff.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with campus leadership and external partners.
