Exams & Assessments Lead

About the role

The Examinations and Assessment Lead is responsible for overseeing the Examinations and Assessment team within the Technical Institute. The role ensures that all examinations and assessments are planned, delivered and reviewed in line with the institute’s assessment strategy and external regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Examinations and Assessment team in accordance with HR policies, health and safety standards, and wellbeing guidelines.
• Own and maintain the Technical Institute Assessment Strategy across all training programmes.
• Provide Chief Instructors with a forward‑looking assessment calendar, including scheduled assessments, re‑sits, complaints and appeals procedures.
• Forecast and plan resource requirements to support the delivery of the assessment calendar and strategy.
• Identify assessment‑related training needs and deliver standardisation activities for staff involved in invigilation, marking, checking, or assessment delivery.
• Capture and maintain sufficient assessment data to enable analysis of factors affecting student performance.
• Ensure all examination and assessment policies, processes, and procedures are regularly reviewed, controlled, and compliant with contractual and regulatory bodies such as City & Guilds and the Ministry of Education.
• Conduct internal audits, moderation analysis, and produce performance reports to inform decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing examinations or assessment functions in an educational or training environment.
• Strong understanding of external awarding bodies and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to analyse performance data and translate findings into improvement actions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading a team and planning resource requirements.
