Master – Ship Captain

About the role

The Master has overall authority for the health and safety of all personnel onboard, the safety of the vessel and the protection of the environment. This senior position is responsible for safe navigation, compliance with all regulations, and the effective management of the crew and ship systems.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and ensure crew adherence.
• Maintain compliance with Flag State, Classification Society and local regulations.
• Plan, organise and control all vessel activities, including maintenance of safety equipment, engine, cranes and DP systems.
• Verify that all marine personnel hold the appropriate qualifications and provide familiarisation for new crew.
• Conduct performance appraisals for marine personnel.
• Oversee safety committees, inspections and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Ensure safe navigation during transit, berthing and unberthing.
• Manage DP operations in line with company requirements and IMCA guidance.
• Maintain accurate official logbooks and the Ship Security Plan, ensuring ISPS Code compliance.
• Act as the primary link between the onboard management team and shore‑based Vessel Management Group.

Required profile

• Valid Master’s licence and all required certifications for rank.
• Extensive experience in vessel command and crew management.
• Proven ability to enforce safety and environmental policies.
• Strong knowledge of Flag State, Classification Society and local regulations.
