Mechanical Engineer – AFCAP Support

About the role

A Mechanical Engineer is needed to plan and design tools, engines, machines and other mechanically functioning equipment, and to review and analyze HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression systems, mechanical drawings and specifications, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. The position supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) at Al Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.

Key responsibilities

• Attend meetings as required for projects or investigative and project-development taskings.
• Carry out construction inspections, quality control and submittal reviews beyond the expertise of construction managers.
• Travel locally to verify compliance and quality of work on jobs and projects.
• Oversee installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water and steam systems.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university with at least 10 years' experience in construction or facility maintenance.
• Proficiency in reviewing HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression systems, mechanical drawings and specifications, and ensuring code and standard compliance.
• Experience with project documents, contracting and construction.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET US Government clearance (US citizenship required).
• Knowledge of engineering principles, planning, project programming, design, project and construction management, and interpretation of plans and drawings.
• Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficient in AutoCAD 2025 or later for facility and infrastructure plans.
• Computer literate, using Microsoft Office and Project.
• Working knowledge of design review, project mobilization, quality compliance, QA, safety, project controls and capture management.
• Experience with central utility plants and energy efficiency technologies is highly desirable.
