Mechanical Trade Lead

About the role

The Mechanical Trade Lead is an experienced Mechanical Technician and Supervisor reporting to the Forward Deputy Maintenance Manager. The role includes supervising maintenance personnel, deputising for senior managers during absences, and ensuring safe, serviceable aircraft for the flying programme.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day Mechanical trade manpower and equipment resources in line with policy and the Maintenance Manager’s priorities.
• Ensure all Mechanical personnel are trained, authorised, and maintain currency, including HF, CoC and other mandated training.
• Oversee shift lists, leave planning and the submission of Technical Part Records Forms (TPRFs) to maintain approved data.
• Conduct weekly quality checks, oversight inspections and report defects to Support and Training Management.
• Act as the primary contact for internal and external agencies, lead strategic Mechanical reviews and support continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship (Aeronautical Engineering or military equivalent) and City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 qualification.
• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a maintenance environment.
• Relevant authorisations such as Asset Manager, Tow Typhoon Assessor and trade‑specific certifications.

Required skills

• Asset Management and coordination of Aircraft and MWOs.
• Download/Upload of PMDS and resolution of arising issues.
• Independent inspections and Typhoon Mechanical Trade ‘Q’ Course.
• Knowledge of Human Factors, E&PW, ITAR and standard safety procedures.
• IT literacy and a valid driving licence.
