Scientific Researcher - Sports Medicine

About the role

Aspetar is looking for a Scientific Researcher to support its research agenda and help establish the hospital as an international centre of excellence through high-quality research. The role contributes to the protection of the health and performance of local and international athletes and teams involved in research projects. It works closely with the research and scientific support department, other departments and the National Sports Medicine Programme, under the supervision of the Head of Research.

Key responsibilities

• Act as principal investigator or co-investigator on research projects: define study design, prepare and administer ethics applications, recruit participants, collect and analyse data and write up results.
• Assess, include and follow up recruited subjects/athletes in line with research regulatory frameworks.
• Prepare articles for international peer-reviewed journals and research reports requested by the department director or head of research.
• Contribute to and lead submissions of research grants.
• Take part in the hospital's scientific education through lectures, presentations and materials such as interviews, clinical guidelines and downloadable programmes.
• Present at national and international conferences and supervise junior researchers.

Required profile

• 6-8 years of experience, including 2-3 years in a similar position in sports science or sports medicine research.
• At least 15 publications in high-impact sports medicine or sports science journals as first or last author.
• Experience collecting, analysing and reporting data for large-scale projects, epidemiological studies or injury-monitoring studies.
• Expertise in sports science, sports medicine, muscle and tendon injuries, return to play and muscle and tendon imaging.
• PhD in Sports Medicine, Sports Science, Data Analytics, Sports Physical Therapy or a related sport science/medicine discipline.
• High proficiency in English; Arabic is a definite advantage.

Required skills

• MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Scientific software such as SPSS, SAS, EndNote or Reference Manager, SigmaPlot or similar.
• Python or similar programming is an advantage.
