Senior Materials Engineer

About the role

WSP International's Qatar branch is looking for an experienced Senior Materials Engineer to support a major Ashghal infrastructure project. The role covers material testing, submittals and quality control so that materials meet Ashghal requirements, Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), project specifications and international standards. The engineer works closely with project teams, consultants and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement material quality plans aligned with Ashghal, QCS and project specifications.
• Review, approve and track material submittals, shop drawings and test reports.
• Coordinate and supervise laboratory and field testing of all construction materials.
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, EN and ISO standards and local regulations.
• Inspect and audit material handling, storage and installation, and prepare technical reports, non-conformance notices and corrective action plans.
• Liaise with Ashghal officials, consultants and contractors and maintain QA/QC records.
• Mentor junior engineers and take part in project meetings and risk assessments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field; Master's preferred.
• At least 15 years of material QA/QC experience on large-scale infrastructure projects in the Gulf region.
• Knowledge of Ashghal and QCS specifications and international standards.
• Experience testing concrete, asphalt, steel and geotechnical materials.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification highly desirable; MMUP registration is mandatory.
• English communication skills; Arabic is a plus. Willingness to travel to sites across Qatar.

• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams under tight schedules.
